What is Stress?

We all experience stress. Stress is a normal response to challenging situations or events. It activates our bodies into action. In general, stress occurs when the demand on us outweighs our resources to cope. Stress can be good as it can help to motivate us. Some people even thrive on stress. However, most of us recognise prolonged stress as something that is potentially harmful and distressing. Certainly when it’s prolonged it can have a detrimental impact on all aspects of our lives, including our physical health.

Chronic, or prolonged, stress can impact us in many ways and manifest in physical and psychological symptoms. Here are some common symptoms people experience in response to chronic stress.
